The Cougars (0-1) delivered a solid debut with Eston Juno and Riley Polly scoring 14 points apiece and Jake Hoopingarner adding 11 points.

SCOTT CITY — Scott City’s Jackson Rumford scored 20 points and Dylan Metzger added 14 points to beat Hoisington 50-40 in Friday’s non-league basketball game.

Tony Moore scored 11 points and Leyton Haxton added seven points for the Cardinals, who committed 30 turnovers against Scott City’s pressure defense.

“We played hard and will get better,” said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. “The story of the game was our 30 turnovers. We’ve got a lot of inexperience. We’ll continue to work hard.”

ELBING —Berean's Nolan Driskill hit a 3-pointer for overtime and James Busenitz converted the go-ahead free throw for a 42-40 overtime victory over the Central Plains boys in Friday's basketball opener.

Creighton Kukala led Berean with 11 points.

Central Plains Oiler all-league Peyton Ryan scored 17 points and Evan Stratmann added 11 points.

"Berean is solid. Our guys played hard and well," said Central Plains coach Michael Ryan. "I liked how our guys kept competing even when things didn;t go so well. I wish we could've finished with a win."

 Oiler Kyla Metro scored nine points and Addy Ogle added eight points.
