Great Bend Bat Cats reliever Alex Ruxlow worked out of a bases-loaded jam to preserve a 2-0 Jayhawk League baseball victory Wednesday over the Dodge City A’s at Al Burns Field. It marked the first shutout in Bat Cats history. The Bat Cats (5-5) play at Dodge City (5-3) Thursday night.
The A’s loaded the bases in the eighth inning when Bennett Hostetler reached on an error and Tucker Rohde and Josh Crosby singled off pitcher Taylor Langston. Ruxlow, a crowd favorite from McPherson, struck out Wyatt Champlin to end the threat.
The Bat Cats scored two seventh-inning runs. Great Bend native Brady Michel doubled and scored the game-winning run off pitcher Kurt Johnson on Mateo Zunica’s single. Barton Community College’s Michael Sinks singled home Peyton Barnes, who reached on a hit by pitch. Michel delivered three hits before a home crowd.
