MULVANE – Great Bend Bat Cat pitchers Tanner Howe and Easton Young were spectacular in a 1-0 two-hit shutout over the Mulvane Patriots in Wednesday’s Sunflower Collegiate League baseball game.
Overland Park’s Howe struck out five batters and Young of Omaha, Neb. retired six consecutive batters to earn the save.
Monson drove home Daunte Freeman with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly. Freeman singled, stole second base and advanced to third base on a throwing error by catcher Colby Standard.
