Great Bend’s Aubrey Snapp enjoyed a perfect day with two individual wins and a pair of relay wins to spark the Panthers to first place at Tuesday’s Great Bend Swimming Invitational. The Panthers (433) outdistanced runner-up Dodge City (215).

Snapp captured first place in the 100 freestyle (1:00.71) and 200 IM (2:35.16) at the Barton Community College pool. Snapp competed on the winning 200 free relay (2:01.15) with Rachel Panzer, Brynn Boxberger and Monica Lang. She competed on the first-place 400 freestyle relay (4:26.35) with Katherine Snapp, Olivia Mull and Zoe Jerke.

Great Bend also captured the 200 medley relay (2:12.47) with Olivia Mull, Alexis Ibarra, Katherine Snapp and Zoe Jerke.

Other individual winners were Zoe Jerke, 50 freestyle (28.46); Olivia Mull, 100 backstroke (1:10.82); and Emma Mayhill, 500 freestyle (6:49.52).

Runner-up finishes were earned by Bynn Boxberger, 50 freestyle (30.09); Zoe Jerke, 100 backstroke (1:15.24); Olivia Mull,

200 IM (2:40.96); and Katherine Snapp, 500 freestyle (7:04.41).

The Panthers earned a runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle relay (4:46.75) with Emma Mayhill, Monica Lang, Brynn Boxberger and Rachel Panzer.

Great Bend finished first, second, third in the 200 individual medley.

Great Bend swimming coach Steve Beaumont saw improvement in a variety of events.

“We had really nice swims today,” Beaumont said. “Our individual medley girls swam really well (Aubrey Snapp, Olivia Mull, Emma Mayhill). Amy To had a great time improvement on her 100 butterfly. Emma Mayhill had a really good 500 today. Olivia Mull and Zoe Jerke each beat their season best times in the 100 backstroke.”

Beaumont said he was pleased with how well the girls swam. Great Bend competes at Garden City April 9 in a showdown of the top two Western Athletic Conference teams.

“We’ve been swimming well, but we need to start racing well. We’re not there yet,” he said. “We need to focus on improving our turns and finishing our races. We’ll have much tougher competition coming up in the next two weeks. I’m looking forward to seeing how we compete against better teams.”
