Great Bend swimmers place first

Great Bend’s swimmers scored 249 points to place first in Thursday’s Great Bend home meet.

Panthers placing first were Alexis Ibarra, 100 breaststroke (1;24.87); Zoe Jerke, 100 freestyle (1:04.46); and Olivia Mull, 100 backstroke (1:11.16). Great Bend won the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.

“Everyone swam some new events today or events they don't normally swim,” said Great Bend coach Steve Beaumont. “It's important for us to grow as a team by challenging all of our swimmers to try some new or different events from time-to-time. I was pleased with how the  girls responded.”

Beaumont said the team has made good progress.

“We need to continue to work hard at practices,” he said.”We have made some good strides, but we still have work to do if we want to qualify relays and individuals for State and have a chance to challenge for a WAC title. Our conditioning is still not where we need it to be.”
