The Great Bend girls played their best golf of the season at a perfect time.
Great Bend (405) fired a season-best 18-hole score. Cailee McMullen continued a hot streak a season low 92 that placed fourth. Teammate Kaylee Reiser shot a season low 94 to tie for fifth place. Ashlyn Harbaugh (108) and Allyson Kaiser (109) also counted in the team score.
"As a team, we shot our best 18-hole score of the season, finishing in third place overall, and sewing up third place in the WAC," said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. "We had four girls score their personal best 18-hole score, which we're pleased with."
McMullen placed third in the WAC and Kaylee Reiser placed sixth in the WAC to earn all-league honors.
"They've led our team all season," McAtee said. "We begin preparing for a tough 5A regional at Hays Monday at Smoky Hill Country Club."
Great Bend's girls tuned up for 5A golf regionals in Tuesday's home meet at Stoneridge Country Club. the temperature hit 92 degrees with southerly winds gusting past 25 mph.
Garden City's Alyssa McMillen (77) earned first place and teammate Elena Lemke (86) earned second place. Garden City (362) captured first place and Hays High (381) placed second.
Also earning All-Western Athletic Conference honors were Player of the Year Garden City's Alyssa McMillen, Garden City's Elena Lemke and Hays High's Sophia Garrison, Emily McGuire and Taleia McCrae.
In the 9-hole JV division, senior Grace Soupiset, recovering from a hand injury, won the event with a 52, but did not earn a medal due to being a senior. Dakota Baldwin (58) earned first, Brenna Bownes (60) runner-up and Kendyl Henning (61) third place.
"This tournament concluded our JV season," McAtee said. "We're pleased with the progress these girls made this season and look forward to having them back for the 2019 campaign."
