Great Bend, Hoisington to meet

Great Bend and Hoisington will join Scott City and Russell in Friday’s scheduled 7 p.m. football jamboree at Memorial Stadium. Great Bend and Scott City will start the jamboree while Hoisington runs 12 offensive and defensive plays against Russell.

Each team is permitted to run 36 offensive and 36 defensive snaps Friday night on new artificial turf.

“It’s an opportunity to go live against another football team,” said Great Bend football coach Erin Beck. “Scott City and Hoisington have football tradition where their players compete at a high level. Our guys have to be ready for that intensity level.”

Beck will start sophomore Daxton Minton at quarterback. Freshman Cooper Ohnmacht, who broke a school vertical jump record, will be the back-up quarterback. Two Panther quarterbacks are freshmen and two are sophomores.

“We’ve got good quality athletes at quarterback,” Beck said.
