The Great Bend American Legion Braves (6-3-1) swept the Salina Eagles 11-9 and 13-3 in Tuesday’s baseball doubleheader at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
BRAVES 11, EAGLES 9 (G1) – Braves pitcher Campbell Coleman preserved a hard-fought victory by working three innings. The Braves rallied after trailing 4-0.
Jace Schartz scored on an error and Carson Poe scored on a second-inning bases-loaded walk.
The Braves scored eight runs in the third inning. Slade Mohr singled home Owen Kaiser. J.J. Grove scored on a bases-loaded walk. Coleman and Mohr scored on an Eli Soupiset single. Collin Saffa scored on a bases-loaded walk. Soupiset scored on an error. Grove doubled home Lane French and Kaiser for a 10-4 lead. Herrman scored the final insurance run on a groundout.
Salina Eagle Tyrus Young drove home three runs and Leon Rose drove home two runs.
BRAVES 13, EAGLES 3 (G2) – Slade Mohr drove home four runs and Coleman drove home three runs in a run-rule victory.
In a 3-run first inning, Kaiser singled home French, Umphres scored on a stolen base and Herrman scored on a groundout. Milsap scored on Herrman’s second-inning single.
Umphres scored on Coleman’s single and Grove and Saffa scored on Mohr’s single in a 3-run third inning.
The Braves closed out with a 6-run fourth inning. Saffa scored on Umphres’ single. Herrman scored on a wild pitch. Coleman doubled home Umphres and Kaiser. Mohr’s single scored Grove and Coleman.
