The Great Bend Middle School eighth-grade girls volleyball team swept past Hutchinson Middle School and Salina Lakewood Tuesday.
The A-team girls used 22 aces serves to overwhelm the Salt Hawks 25-7, 25-2.
“The girls worked hard during the offseason and that work showed,” said Great Bend coach Michelle Barber. “We worked on spot serving and placing our hits rather than just getting the ball over the net. This is a talented group of girls. We will challenge them more as the season progresses.”
The Panthers drilled 18 ace serves in a 25-10, 25-20 victory over Salina Lakewood.
“The second game against Lakewood allowed our offense to get more swings at the net as well as our setters to work on placement and set selection,” Barber said. “The girls executed well in both areas.”
The GBMS B team girls were led by Mackenzie Lindberg and Braelyn Turner, who combined for 18 aces against Hutchinson and Salina Lakewood.
Tatum Anderson, Zoey Mayberry and Allie Gerhardt combined for 13 winners. Coach Peyton Burkhart’s B team improves to 2-0.
