The Great Bend Middle School eighth-grade A team swept Hutchinson Middle School 25-19, 25-22 and Salina Lakewood and 25-7, 25-14 to open the season.  

Mikala Minton served eight aces, Micah Ellegood seven and Lanie Haselhorst six.  Ellegood delivered 11 winners, Brooklynn Kelly nine, Baylie Kelly and Jaizley Andrasek eight apiece, Minton seven.  Haselhorst handed out 21 assists, Minton 16, Abbie Meyers five and Karys Leu two.  

“The girls are talented,” said coach Michelle Barber.  “I’m excited to see how they progress.”

The B team girls coached by Alyssa Herter, swept Hutchinson Middle School 25-23, 28-26 and Salina Lakewood 25-20, 26-24.  

Callie Umphres served up 10 aces, Jaci Morris six, and Delisha Karshan and Angel Neighbors four apiece.  Paige Trendel hit four winners, Umphres three and Karshan one.  Raelynn Rowe delivered nine saves and Sydney James four.
