Panther girls, Esfeld dominate at Buhler track meet

BUHLER – Great Bend’s versatile girls captured the Buhler Track Invitational championship with 151 points and distance ace Kaiden Esfeld doubled his fun with wins in the 800 meters (2:00.64) and 1,600 meters (4:30.34).

The Panther girls swept five first-place medals as the 1,600-meter relay (4:13.22) with Eliana Beckham, Makenzie Premer, Sadie Spray and Kara Feist; and the 3,200m relay (10:23.06) with Beckham, Cassie Ellegood, Kate Welcher and Sienna Smith placed first.

Great Bend’s Valarie Luna won the high jump (5-4) and placed runner-up in the 100 meters (12.79) behind Hutchinson’s 3-event winner Annalisa Cullens, who also won the 100-meter hurdles (14.05) and 300-meter hurdles (45.15).

Beckham won the 800 meters (2:23.78) to lead a 1-2-3 finish with runner-up Sienna Smith (2:32.47) and third-place Ellegood (2:34.22). Addy Nicholson won the 3,200 (12:01.23) and placed runner-up in the 1,600 (5:26.21).

Spray was runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles (47.17) and high jump (5-0).

GREAT BEND BOYS – Esfeld sparked the Panthers to a fifth-place finish (79) with Hutchinson (114) winning the title.

Panther Madison Regehr continues an impressive spring with second-place medals in the 100-meter hurdles (15.52) behind Andover Central’s Landon Kitterman (15.37) and the 300-meter hurdles (40.68) behind Buhler’s Myles Fredrick (40.63).

Panther Mathew Moeder fought tough wind conditions for a runner-up in the javelin (158-5) and a third place in the shot put (43-1).

The Panthers’ 1,600-meter relay (3:29.53) placed runner-up with Oliver Dominguez, Esfeld, Maddox Spray and Regehr.
