Great Bend's Daizy Gomez jumped in the air with a celebration that is fitting for a potential state wrestling champion

No. 3 ranked 5A/6A Gomez erased three years of frustration with a lightning-quick pin (2:27) over Dodge City's No. 2 ranked 130-pound Ariana De La Rosa.

Great Bend's crowd roared its approval and the winning 'gong' rang when Gomez soared to the sky.

" It felt good to win. My reaction was stress coming off my shoulders.," Gomez said. "That was a surprise."

De La Rosa has been a thorn in Gomez's side for three years, winning every match-up.

"I told myself I had nothing to lose," said Gomez. "I'd lost to her plenty of times. It was my time to win. I was dancing warming up. I told myself I'd wrestle my match,"

Gomez calmed her serves and came out with a confident and aggressive game plan. De La Rosa scored the initial takedown for a 2-0 lead. But Gomez used a 'chicken-wing' move to flip De La Rosa on the mat.

"I was relaxed out there," Gomez said. "It should've happened years ago, a long time ago."

No. 2 ranked 5A-6A Dodge City strolled to a hard-fought 48-30 dual match victory.

Great Bend's No. 6 ranked Camdyn Post (105) pinned Miranda Alvarez (1:40); Kirra Stevens (170) pinned Erika Sandoval (2:39) and No. 4 ranked Natalee Daniels pinned Naomi Orozco (4:22).

Great Bend's No. 4 ranked Kaylea McMullen (125) earned a forfeit win.

Dodge City's four other state-ranked wrestlers won on pins — No. 2 Liz Ramirez (100), No. 2 Ashley Alonzo (115); No. 4 Yareli Garcia (145) and No. 6 Liliana Arroyo (155).
