ELLINWOOD —Macksville's Isabella Ortiz scored 14 points and Mayce Russell added 12 points as the Mustangs roared past Ellinwood 47-19 in Friday's Central Prairie League basketball game. The Mustangs (6-2, 2-0 CPL) led 24-0 before the Eagles scored their first points.
Ellinwood's Reese Stickney scored eight points.

ELLINWOOD — Macksville's Diego Esparza kept attacking the basket aggressively. Esparza converted 19 fourth-quarter points in a 29-point effort that sparked the Mustangs past Ellinwood 52-47 in Friday's hard-fought Central Prairie League basketball game.
Esparza scored 15 fourth-quarter free throws. The Mustangs outscored the Eagles 21-16 in the fourth quarter. Macksville (6-2, 2-0 CPL) outscored the Eagles 24-9 from the free throw line.
Ellinwood (6-3, 0-2 CPL) was paced by Campbell Coleman with 13 points and Landon Simpson with 11 points.

CLAFLIN — Central Plains locked down Victoria 52-30 with a sterling defensive effort in Friday's Central Prairiie League basketball game.
The Oilers (6-1, 1-0) opened CPL play keyed by Peyton Ryan with 15 points and Aiden Hekele with 11 points. The Oilers converted eight 3-pointers to outscore the Knights 24-6 from long distance. Quincy Pickering led Victoria with seven points.
Oiler coach Michael Ryan emphasized the importance of clean play before the game. The Oilers took care of the basketball to roll to a 22-point win.
“I’m really proud of how hard the boys worked," Ryan said. "Even after the long break, they came out and played at a very high level.”
The Oilers (6-1, 1-0 CPL) open the St. John Tournament Monday.

CLAFLIN — Marilyn Soeken scored a career high 23 points and Addyson Ogle added 13 points as Central Plains opened defense of their Central Prairie title reign with a 48-42 victory over Victoria in Friday's Central Prairie League basketball game.
Although the Oilers hadn’t played a game since Dec. 19, they picked up a hard fought win to extend their win streak to five in a row. Soeken hit a trio of 3-pointers and Ogle two as the Oilers outscored the Knights 18-3 from long range.
Victoria's Averi Windholz scored 16 points and Kennedy Amrein added 11.
Oiler coach Pat Stiles was proud of the hustle on the court.
“I can never fault the girls' effort,” Stiles said.
The Oilers (5-2, 1-0 CPL) play Larned Monday at the St. John Tournament.

HOISINGTON — Halstead's Dominque Schutte scored 28 points to spark the Dragons past Hoisington 68-61 in Friday's wild Central Kansas League basketball game. Halstead (7-1, 1-0 CKL) outscored the Cardinals 24-16 in the decisive third quarter.
Hoisington (6-1, 0-1 CKL) climbed within 59-57 when Schutte and the Dragons converted timely free throws down the stretch. Kylee Hahn (14), Mallory Mooney (12) and Ellie Crawford (11) scored in double figures. The Cardinals play at the Hoisington Winter Jam next week.
Jordyn Boxberger dished out six assists. Hahn grabbed seven rebounds.
