HOISINGTON 28, NICKERSON 14

HOISINGTON – Hoisington tailback Wyatt Pedigo scored three touchdowns and rushed for 144 yards to ignite the Cardinals’ 28-14  Central Kansas League football victory over Nickerson.

Pedigo scored on a 5-yard touchdown and added 1-yard and 20-yard scores to spark his 146-yards on 21 carries behind crisp blocking up front. Xavier Robinson scored on a 20-yard touchdown for his first career touchdown. Robinson added 37 yards rushing.

Pedigo dominated on defense, making a key sack on fourth down against quarterback Tanner Schrag. Robinson returned a punt 52 yards to set up a Cardinal touchdown,

Nickerson scored on Jarron Kaufman’s 4-yard touchdown and Tanner Schrag’s fourth-quarter 32-yard touchdown run. The Panthers were plagued by penalties for the second week in a row.


Hoisington (1-1,) plays at Larned (0-2) next week. Nickerson drops to 0-2.

ELLINWOOD 46, SUBLETTE 0

SUBLETTE – Ellinwood tailback Kody Koetter rushed for 185 yards and scored four touchdowns as the Eagles snapped a 20-game losing streak in 11-man football. 

Ellinwood’s last victory in 11-man football was 32-22 over Inman in 2011. The Eagles played 8-man football the past four seasons.

Koetter started the scoring on a 31-yard run and added three short touchdown runs. Ellinwood David Hammeke caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Kyler Doll and added a 17-yard touchdown run. Ellinwood’s Peyton Schwartz blocked a punt that set up a touchdown.

Ellinwood's Ryan Niles intercepted a pass and delivered 46- and 47-yard runs. Ethan Hayes had 81/2 tackles, one for loss. Koetter and Hammeke tackled Tanner Randles for a safety.

Ellinwood's proves to 1-1 while Sublette (0-2) has lost 24 consecutive football games.

CENTRAL PLAINS 32, VICTORIA 8

CLAFLIN – No. 2 state-ranked Central Plains rolled past Victoria 32-8 in Friday’s Central Prairie League showdown to avenge a loss to the Knights last year.

Quarterback Myles Menges completed touchdown passes to Jerred Bieberle and Lawson Oeser and added a 3-yard scoring dash. Oiler tailback Alex Hickel clinched the victory with back-to-back 31- and 37-yard touchdown runs.

Oeser rushed for 98 yards and Menges rushed for 90 yards to spark a 300-yard ground game in 46 attempts.

Victoria’s Caden Obele caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Cooper Windholz, who threw for 43 yards. The Knights rushed for 81 yards.

The Oilers (2-0) were led defensively by Grant Heldstab with eight tackles. Oeser and Hickel each had seven stops. Menges intercepted a pass.

OTIS – Otis-Bison quarterback Anton Foust scored two touchdowns and passed for two scores to spark the Cougars (1-1) past Bucklin 50-0 in 8-man football.

Foust returned the opening kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown and scored on a 45-yard run. Foust completed a 21-yard score to Maitland Wiltse and a 30-yard touchdown to Bevan Gradig,

Gradig added a 25-yard touchdown. Wiltse converted a 55-yard kickoff return for a touchdown after a safety.

Cougars Luke Higgason and Wiltse tackled Bucklin ball-carriers Ryan Durr and Josh Stout for safeties. Gradig had 61/2 tackles. Buclklin lost eight yards rushing on 19 attempts.

STAFFORD – Stafford quarterback Justice Manning threw three touchdown passes and rushed for three scores to lead the Trojans to a 62-14 8-man rout of Minneola,

Manning threw for 99 yards and completed two touchdown passes to Ethan Hildebrand and one to Nicholas Gift. Manning rushed for 27 yards and three scores. Caleb Hildebrand rushed for a touchdown and scored twice. Tai Hilebrand added a touchdown.

Caleb Hildebrand intercepted two passes and had 12 tackles. Nicholas Gift intercepted two passes. Ethan Hildebrand intercepted a pass.

WESKAN — Pawnee Heights all-state tailback Kade Scott scored six touchdowns and rushed for 377 yards as the Tigers edged rival Weskan 39-37 in Friday’s 6-man football game. Scott scored five rushing touchdowns and added a 79-yard kickoff return for a score.

Quarterback Trace Baker completed five passes for 56 yards. Scott had 12 tackles, two sacks and two pass deflections. Shawn Peterson intercepted a pass.

The Tigers (2-0) play Cheylin (2-0) at home Friday.

NESS CITY 50, MACKSVILLE 28

MACKSVILLE — Macksville quarterback Kody Mead completed three touchdown passes and added a rushing score in a 50-28 Central Prairie League loss to Ness City.

Mead completed 18 passes for 214 yards. Karson Waters caught 11 passes for 139 yards, two scores, including a 55-yard TD. Darrien Miller had three catches for 62 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown. 

Waters accounted for 15 tackles, three for loss. 

Ness City quarterback Angel Guzman threw for two touchdown and added a rushing touchdown. Tailback Edwin Rodriguez rushed for 69 yards and two scores.

“Ness City is a big physical team that tested our limits,” said Macksville coach Chet Skinner. “Tonight’s game was a good test early in the season. We spotted them 14 early points, and had to battle back to make it a game. We found out out where we were as a team. We look to improve our weaknesses before district play.”

Skinner said the Mustangs made too many errors.

“We made too many self-inflicted errors down the stretch to be where we need to be,” Skinner said. “Our offense struggled early, but settled in and got things going. Defensively, we gave up a couple big plays which cost us.”

Macksville (1-1) challenges Victoria (1-1), the Mustangs’ final non-district football game.
