Hoisington baseball rescheduled Thursday

HOISINGTON — Hoisington pitchers Derek Boxberger and Myles Menges dominated on the mound to spark the Cardinals to a 6-1, 11-1 Central Kansas League baseball sweep over Smoky Valley. Hoisington (3-1) travels to Pratt (3-1) Tuesday

HOISINGTON 6, SMOKY VALLEY 1 (G1) — Boxberger (1-1) shut out the Vikings on no hits through five innings with a solid performance. Brandon Malm broke up the no-hitter with a sixth-inning single that scored Ty Miller after a hit batter and error.

The Cardinals’ Jerred Bieberle scored on Menges’ first-inning groundout and Holt Hanzlick’s groundout drove home Braxton Donvoan for a 2-0 lead off starter Karter Adam.

Trey Byers drove home Donovan on a productive groundout for a 3-0 lead after three innings. Bieberle’s double scored Derek Boxberger and Kameron Schneweis in a two-run fifth inning. Boxberger singled and Schnweis walked. Bieberle scored the Cardinals’ sixth run on a wild pitch. 

HOISINGTON 11, SMOKY VALLEY 1 (G2) — Menges was masterful with four strikeouts and 71 pitches in six innings. Hoisington’s Jacob Specht drove home three runs to lead an 11-run effort.

Bieberle scored on a first-inning error. Ty Miller’s groundout scored Karter Adam for a 1-1 tie.

Avery Brewer scored on a passed ball and Spechet’s rwo-run single scored Quentin Boxberger and Bieberle for a 4-1 lead after two innings. Specht’s single scored Menges for a 6-1 lead through four frames.

Three walks ignited a six-run game-ending Cardinal rally. Hanzlick’s groundout scored Menges. Boxberger’s single scored Specht and Byers. Brewer scored on a hit batter. Donovan’s sacrifice fly scored Derek Boxberger. Quentin Boxberger scored the game-ending run on a misplayed groundball hit by Menges.
