Hoisington sweeps Nickerson titles

NICKERSON – Hoisington’s girls and boys dominated the Nickerson Track Invitational, winning both divisions.

"The coaching staff was pleased with how our athletes performed," said Hoisington coach Daniel Schmidt. "The team was solid on the girls and boys sides. Some performances would have easily placed at last year's 3A state track meet. That was nice to see. As our team moves forward, there will be some very good days ahead."

CARDINAL GIRLS – Hoisington's girls scored 199 points and won 15 events. Triple winner Marley Bittel swept the 100 (13.15), 200 (27.56) and 400 (1:08.41).

Double winner Sofia Simic won the high jump (5-0) and 100-meter hurdles (17.42). State champion Shellamae Farmer won the pole vault (11-0) and 300-meter hurdles (51.76). Double winner Tristin Compton won the 800 (2:49.06) and 1,600 (6:12.94).

The Cardinals swept the 400 relay (51.72) with Farmer, Mooney, Kelsi Maier and Bittel; the 1,600 relay (4:47.2) with Hanzlick, Maier, Mooney and Simic; and the 3,200 (11:18.69) with Compton, Tianna Lutters, Monroe Walker and Kinley Wilkens.
