Hoisington doubles teams place second

Hoisington High’s No. 1 doubles Emma Mooney-Marta Vara Rodriguez and No. 2 doubles Bailee Bachar-Jacquelyn Gonzalez both finished runner-up to highlight the Great Bend Invitational tennis tournament.

Garden City’s Carson Linenberger-Sage Riggs defeated Mooney and Rodriguez 8-3 in the championship match after the Hoisington twosome won four matches.

Garden City’s Carole Gian-Hannah Kipp defeated Bachar-Gonzalez 8-6 in the championship finals after the Cardinals swept four consecutive matches.

Dodge City’s No. 1 singles Mariana Duque downed Liberal’s Rebecca Irby 8-5 for first place. Great Bend Black’s Remi Ingram defeated Hoisington’s Audrie Harms, 8-3 for fifth place.

Garden City's No. 2 singles Erasay Alcantar defeated Hays High’s Lynsie Hansen 8-5 for first place. Great Bend Red’s Anna Popp defeated Dodge City’s Victoria Garcia 8-3 for third place.

Garden City (42) was followed by Hays High (32). Hoisington (27) finished fourth and Great Bend Red (25) and Great Bend Black (25) tied for fifth with 25 points.

Teams were challenged by a 100-degree heat index and south winds gusting past 30 mph at Shannon Schartz tennis courts.
