HESSTON – Hoisington's Tricia Schremmer emerged as the area's best golfer with a 16th-place medalist finish at 191 (101-90) at Tuesday's KSHSAA 3-1A girls state golf tournament. Schremmer improved by 11 strokes Tuesday with the wind gusting past 25 mph. She parred No. 9 and three pars 3 – Nos. 4, 8 and 17.

"Tricia really played well today with much windier conditions," said Hoisington coach Bruce Cooper. "Tricia is a terrific athlete. She played extremely well today. We were close as a team and just missed qualifying for the second day."

Hoisington posted a team score of 423, which missed by four strokes to qualify for Tuesday's final 18 holes.

Hoisington's Ava Henry (101, 53-48) tied for 24th and improved by three shots at 98 Tuesday for a 199 total. Henry parred the 16th hole.

Cardinals Lexus Peterilie (108, 57-51) and Khloe Schneweis (113, 59-54) also counted in the team scores. In the first round, Henry parred the par 3 Nos. 13 and 17 holes. Petersilie parred No. 1 and her final two holes No. 17 and 18. Schremmer Nos. 1 and 14. Schneweis parred Nos. 12 and 17.

Larned's Madeline McMurphy (104, 45-59) qualified for the second day and finished at 216 (104-112). She was on pace to easily qualify for Tuesday's second round. She carded  a pair of pars at Nos. 2 and 3 and a solid 45 on the front nine. But she encountered trouble with a greenside bunker with a 9-over-par 14 at the No. 11 hole.

Pittsburg Colgan 705 (357/348) captured the team title 19 shots ahead of Colby (724, 357/367). Wichita Collegiate's Margaret Ulrich captured medalist honors at 151 (76/75) with a better round in windier conditions. Colby Anna Starbuck (158, 77-81) was runner-up.
