Hoisington pitching overwhelms Larned

HOISINGTON — Hoisington’s Legion baseball team overwhelmed Larned 9-0 and 9-1 in Tuesday’s doubleheader.

HOISINGTON 9, LARNED 0 (G1) — Three Hoisington pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout. Larned’s Aidan Smyth singled twice and Luke Wilson and Gunnar Cline each singled.

Larned pitchers Carlos Ibarra and Gavin Alvarez combined to issue 11 walks. Hoisington drew five walks in a five-run first inning. Steinert singled home Trey Byers and Quinton Boxberger and two runs scored on bases-loaded walks.

Trey Byers singled home Jacob Specht. Holt Hanzlick scored on a wild pitch and Derek Boxberger scored on a groundout in a three-run second inning. Byers scored on a fourth-inning wild pitch for a 9-0 victory.

HOISINGTON 9, LARNED 1 (G2) — Pitcher Bransen Schulte struck out four batters with a four-hitter. Quinton Boxberger and Hanzlick each drove home two runs.

Schulte doubled home Hanzlick and Grant Gwinner after Braxton Donovan scored on a first-inning wild pitch. 

Larned’s Colin LaBouchardiere scored a second-inning run on an error. LaBouchardiere singled twice and Aidan Smyth and Dillan Smith singled. 

Quintin Boxberger scored on Donovan’s second-inning groundout for a 4-1 lead. Schulte scored on a third-inning error for a 5-1 lead. Schulte scored on a balk and Quentin Boxberger singled home Byers in a four-run fifth inning. Steinert scored the eighth run and Hoisington scored the ninth run on an error to end the game on the 8-run rule.
