HOT ROD in search of fastest street car

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The gauntlet has been thrown.
HOT ROD Magazine officially announced its rules and tour cities for HOT ROD Drag WeekTM 2011.
Beginning on Sept. 11, competitors will be put to a grueling test over five days of drag racing, five days on the road and more than 1,000 miles covered in the same car, with the same engine, in the search for HOT ROD’s Fastest Street Car in America.
HOT ROD Drag Week comes to the SCRA Dragstrip on Tuesday, Sept. 13, as part of the tour.
Some of the most amazing vehicles in the world will be on display as a few will even be able to run over 200 mph in the quarter-mile in less than seven seconds.
During the course of the competition, participants will register times at four drag strips over five days of racing. But it’s not just about clocking the lowest elapsed time on the strips; the drivers will also have to follow a specified route from city to city. The crew at HOT ROD will require photographic evidence from each entry that drivers are adhering to the prescribed route, so it’s not just about having a fast car on the track – drivers will be on the clock for five straight days and must remain alert to all rules.
To make this adventure even more difficult, competitors will not have the luxury of having chase vehicles, or support from outside “team members.”
Entrants can, however, tow their own trailers, within HOT ROD’s guidelines, of course, but they must work alone.
HOT ROD Drag WeekTM 2011 is an adventure of hot rods, survival and new-found friends at every turn. Anyone can participate and the competition is open to 11 different classes of cars; however, the event is limited to the first 200 vehicles to sign up.
Entrants can learn more and register for HOT ROD Drag WeekTM 2011at www.hotrod.com.
