Larned baseball stretches win streak to 11

NICKERSON – The Larned Indian baseball team stretched its winning streak to 11 consecutive games with a dominating 17-2 and 19-2 Central Kansas League sweep over winless Nickerson Friday.

Larned (13-4, 11-4 CKL) needs one win at home against Lyons (6-10, 6-10 CKL) Tuesday to clinch the top seed in the 3A Hays baseball regional. Nickerson (0-18, 0-16 CKL) remains winless.

INDIANS 17, PANTHERS 2 (G1) – Larned kept rolling by scoring 17 runs on 17 hits. Pitcher Brady Hope struck out six batters in five innings.

Aidan Smyth drove home three runs with three hits and three runs scored. Jack Stelter scored three runs and delivered three hits. Kaden Pontius drove home three runs with two hits.

Carlos Ibarra had three hits and drove home two runs and Logan Erway had two hits with two RBIs. Dillan Smith had three hits and drove in one run.

Nickerson’s Aden Garcia and Camden Cornelius each drove in a run.

INDIANS 19, PANTHERS 2 (G2) – Larned scored six first-inning runs and six fourth-inning runs for a run-rule victory. Pitcher Christian Murray struck out 10 batters in 32/3 innings.

Erway led a 15-hit attack with four RBIs, two hits and two runs scored. Ian Orth drove in three runs. Gavin Alvarez and Aidan Smyth each drove home two runs. Brady Hope, Kyler Semple and Stelter each drove in one run.

Nickerson’s Colton Morrell doubled and tripled. Garcia drove in a run.
