LAKIN GIRLS 37, LARNED 36 – Larned’s Lady Indians were upset by Lakin 37-36. Lakin outscored Larned 9-6 in the fourth quarter.
Larned missed a desperation heave for a 3-point basket.
Ivory Muldrow scored 10 first-half points. Katelyn Sanger added eight points and Katie Fischer six.
The Indians (2-5) play Lyons at home Tuesday.
“We continue to search for leadership,” said Larned coach Ashley Crosby. “We needed someone to step up and take charge of this game in the fourth quarter. No one did and we lost a game we should have won.”
Larned’s defensive pressure produced 26 Lakin turnovers, but the Indians failed to convert those into points.
“We started the game well but due to poor shooting on close-in shots, we allowed Lakin to stay in the game,” said Crosby. “It came back to bite us.”
The Indians raced to a 10-2 start, but failed to convert numerous chances under the basket as Lakin closed within 12-8 after one period.
Larned led 17-12 at halftime. Lakin (2-5) was led by Jaya Esquibel with 12 points. Tiana Gonzalez added 10 and Talyn Beltran nine.
