Indian, Cardinal miss top 20 medals
Halle Barker1

SALINA – Larned Indian Halle Barker shot 191 (94-97) to place 24th and miss a top 20 medal Tuesday at Salina Municipal Golf Course. Hoisington’s Addison Smith shot 195 (101-94) to finish 29th.

The wind blew 15 to 25 mph Tuesday after gusts passed 50 mph Monday.

Larned coach Dan Collins said Barker hit the ball superbly from tee-to-green. Barker finished par/birdie to finish Monday’s 18-hole round.

“Halle hit the ball really well, especially Monday,” Collins said. ”The course played 10 shots tougher Monday. But Halle had several 3-putts both days. She had a hard time getting the putter going.”

Goodland 709 (366-343) captured the 3-1A state golf championship to beat Silver Lake (754) by 45 strokes after rounds of 383-371.

Stanton County’s Rylie Cook won her second consecutive state championship 145 (73-72). Lawrence Seabury’s Faith Hedges finished runner-up at 153 (77-76) after placing third last year.
