Larned felt right at home at the Great Bend Sports Complex with a sweep of the Great Bend Braves, 3-1 and 7-6 in Thursday's baseball twin bill. Larned (13-11) and the Great Bend Braves (11-14) compete at the A Zone tournament Monday in Great Bend. Great Bend plays the Hays Eagles at 2 p.m. Monday.
LARNED 3, BRAVES 1 (G1) — Larned's pitchers limited the Braves to one run and three hits in a solid first-game victory. Mello Bryant (2-2) worked 31/3 innings and Aidan Smyth and Dillan Smith also pitched.
Larned scratched out three runs. Jacob Grosfield scored on a third-inning error after a single and hit batter. Gunnar Cline singled home Luke Wilson in the fourth inning. Jack Stelter tripled and scored on a fifth-inning wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.
Great Bend's Stefan Spray singled home Paco Hernandez in the fifth inning.
LARNED 7, BRAVES 6 (G2) — Larned rallied with a five-run inning after Brad Beck's three-run double handed the Braves a 5-2 lead. Aidan Smyth and Kaden Pontius delivered RBI singles. Christian Murray and Gunnar Cline scored on errors and Gavin Alvarez scored on a bases-loaded walk for a 7-5 lead.
Stefan Spray's double scored Paco Hernandez for a 7-6 score. But Mathew Moeder was retired to end the six-inning affair.
Larned led 1-0 when Jacob Grosfield singled home Aidan Smyth in the first inning. The Braves led 2-1 when Brad Beck scored on a bases-loaded walk and Joseph Moeder scored on a fourth-inning balk. Logan Erway's double scored Christian Murray for a 2-2 tie.
