LARNED — Larned's Legion baseball team swept Gove County 7-3 and 12-2 in Monday's doubleheader. Larned (7-7) plays at the Great Bend Braves Thursday at the Sports Complex.
LARNED 7, GOVE COUNTY 3 (G1) — Larned's Carson Shaver and Andres Martinez each drove in two runs to spark an opening victory. Shaver struck out five batters in four innings.
Martinez singled in Shaver in the first inning. Hunter Hobbs scored on Shaver's fifth-inning single to start a 4-run fifth inning. Shaver scored on a groundout. Tristan Regan scored on a wild pitch. Deacon Martin scored on a Martinez sacrifice fly.
In a 2-run sixth inning, Gonzales scored on Shaver's single and Mason Miller scored on a passed ball.
Ben Byers, Caedmon Bridges and Brayden Cunningham drove in runs for Gove County (12-15).
LARNED 12, GOVE COUNTY 2 (G2) — Larned's Shaver, Martinez and Camden Bird each drove in two runs. Ty Smith and Miller drove in runs. Regan struck out four batters in 31/3 innings.
