Larned, Macksville, Oiler make state field


WICHITA — Larned Indian Cierra Nord placed sixth (21:40.0) at the Lake Afton regional to earn an individual state berth for the 3A state cross country meet at Lawrence’s Rim Rock Farms. Nord placed 40th at the 3A state meet (21:10.9) last year. 

Larned’s Brayden Lothman placed 14th (18:17.0) and missed qualifying by 17 seconds.

3A NORTON BOYS — Hoisington’s Dayne Yott finished 14th (17:56.04) to miss qualifying for state cross country by less than 3 seconds. 

Jayla Wyant led the Hoisington girls with a 40th place finish (23:16.51).

1A WICHITA GIRLS — The Macksville girls placed third (52) behind Berean Academy (26) and Pretty Prairie (36) at the Wichita regional to qualify its team for the state meet at Wamego Country Club.

Mustanh Madison Butler placed as third medalist and joined 27th Abigail Ibarra (24:09.0), 29th Joselin Garcia (24:41.39) and 33rd Karen Hall (25:14.44) as runners whgo counted for the team score. Other qualifiers are 37th Melanie Vargas (26:00.78); 43rd Anna Suiter (26:48.62) and 48th Kaylee Hottovy (28:32.57).

Central Plains Oiler Hannah Redetzke qualified for state as the seventh-place finisher (21:20.83).

1A WICHITA BOYS — St. John qualified its team for state with a runner-up finish (36) behind regional champion Berean Academy (25). St. John has placed first, second and second the past three years at state.

St. John’s four-time state qualifier A.J. Miller placed third (17:22.14) and Uriel Calleros placed sixth (17:47.08). They join  16th four-time state qualifier Trey Fisher (18:31.5); 17th Dylan Reed (18:54.69); 24th Marshall Woolf (19:16.73) and 35th Dalton Nemec (19:34.62) at Wamego Country Club.
