CIMARRON 37, LARNED GIRLS 35
The Larned Lady Indians missed their first nine shots, a trend that would cost them.
The cold shooting continued as the Indians fell to Cimarron 37-35 Tuesday.
It was a back and forth game that was finally settled on a layup at the final buzzer by Taylor Jantz on an out of bounds play with 4.4 seconds remaining.
Larned converted 13 of 47 from the field and 8 of 19 from the free throw line. Larned’s Ivory Muldrow had 13 points while Baylea Perez added 7 and Shaylee Nesby and Katelynn Sanger added 5 apiece. Larned falls to 2-3 for the season and will next play at Nickerson Dec. 20 before the Christmas break.
Turnovers were key in Larned forging a 15-12 halftime lead and maintain it at 28-23 at the end of three quarters. Larned forced Cimarron into 24 turnovers in the game which contributed mightly to the Larned offense. T he Indians were able to maintain that 3-5 point edge until late in thefourth quarter when the Bluejays were able to draw even.That’s when Jantz provided her heroics.
“I was pleased with our effort but we got lost on defense a number of times, including that last basket,” said Larned coach Ashley Crosby. “We’ve got to clean that up.”
Cimarron’s Cameron Bartlett scored 18 points. The BlueJays improved to 3-2. Cimarron shot 18 of 41 from the field but only 2 of 12 from the charity stripe.
