Lobner, Nathan win at S.R.C.A. Drag Strip

J.R. Lobner and Pat Nahan led the winner’s list over the weekend at S.R.C.A. Drag Strip for the Thunder on the Plains event.
Lobner, out of Gardner, ran 179.54 mph in seven seconds flat to defeat his dad John Lobner, Desoto, in the division’s Fineline Madcap Top Dragster final.
Lobner, who was also running in the Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman class, also has a sister Jeryka that was also pulling double-duty racing in the Super Comp and Super Street classes.
Sartell, Minn., racer Pat Nahan put his Comp Eliminator Dragster in the winner’s circle when he took out Shaun Vincent, Omaha, Neb.  Nahan clocked in at 8.921 seconds for the win.
Mark Jenkins and Nick Siebert also took home trophies this weekend in the Super Stock and Stock classes respectively with Jenkins, Wymore, Neb., driving a ’91 Cutlass to the win in 10.146 seconds against Rob Cruzen, Cleveland, Okla.  Siebert, Wamego, went 106.60 mph in his ’85 Camaro in running down Stan Kopejtka, Atkinson, Neb.
In the super category index classes Terry Edwards, Jeff Lopez and Dave Ash each went the distance this weekend.  Edwards, Cameron, Mo., beat Dale Maher, Aurora, Colo., in Super Comp and Lopez, Bedford, Texas, was quicker than Kari Larson in Super Gas with his ’63 Corvette.  Ash, Victoria, defeated Justin Lowry, Littleton, Colo., in his ’92 Camaro in 11.034 seconds at 139.62 mph.
Other winners were Larry Demars, Carroll, Iowa, in Top Sportsman taking out Jim White of Haysville, running 7.291, 186.64 and Mike Voss, Maplewood, Minn., rode a ’10 Kawasaki to defeat Kyle Olson in 9.183 seconds at 128.74 mph.
West Central Division racers head to Brainerd International Raceway for their next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, June 2-3.  
Next up for S.R.C.A. Dragstrip is their Grudge Night Racing/Test & Tune event on Friday, May 25, followed by their Summit Racing E.T. point’s event on Saturday, May 26.
