This weekend, the Great Bend Recreation Commission is hosting the 2011 NBC Hap Dumont State Tournament, which began with pool play for 25 teams in the 11-and-under competition on Friday.
After six final pool play games Saturday morning, the tournament turned into single elimination with teams placed into brackets according to how they did in their pools.
The Larned Cubs, which were placed in pool ‘E’ with the Wichita Rock Hounds, the Andover Aces and the MBA Midwest Yankees, struggled in pool play.
The Rock Hounds beat Larned on Friday in three innings, 16-1, and the Andover Aces beat the Cubs on Saturday 16-0.
The first-place and third-place games are slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. today at the Veteran Memorial Park ballfields.
The winner of the consolation bracket was crowned late Saturday.
The Manhattan Renegades defeated the Salina Irish 11-10.
