SCOTT CITY — The Golden Belt Swim Squad left Scott City on Saturday with a first-place finish at the swim meet with 733 points.
Scott City finished in second place with 677.
“We finished in first place,” Golden Belt Swim Squad head coach Steve Beaumont said. “Scott City took second. It was pretty close. We didn’t take first place until the latter half of the afternoon.
“Scott City has a lot of swimmers, and they were swimming in their home pool, which I’m sure helped.”
Beaumont said that the older kids were able to bring in the points needed to over take the Scott City Stars.
“The afternoon group really helped,” Beaumont said. “The older kids stepped up and got us the points we needed to win. They did a really good job.”
Kalyn Blessing led the 14-and-under girls in the afternoon with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall at two minutes, 48.63 seconds.
Hannah Hildebrand led the 15-and-over group with a pair of individual first-place times in the backstroke (1:13.97) and the butterfly (1:12.89). Hildebrand also took second in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.
“The 11- and 12-year-old boys and girls were strong this weekend,” Beaumont said. “All of our kids that swam in the afternoon were very strong.”
For the 11- and 12-year-old girls, Emma Cape and Kira Cook both walked away from Scott City with three individual gold medals.
Cape dominated the freestyle events, finishing in first place in the 200 (2:40.09), the 100 (1:11.14) and the 50 (30.13) freestyles.
Cook claimed gold in the 50 butterfly (34.65), the 50 backstroke (38.73) and the 50 breaststroke (40.25).
The 12-and-under boys were led by Dawson Clark, who took home three individual gold medals as well. Clark swam the top times in the 50 freestyle (31.84), the 50 butterfly (35.07) and the 100 freestyle (1:11.82).
Cole Pierce, who competed in the 12-and-under division, won a gold medal in the 50 backstroke (42.03) and a silver medal in the 50 breaststroke (50.55).
“The younger kids did swim well,” Beaumont said. “They didn’t quite have the numbers that some of them had in the first week, but they did very well.”
Rachel Panzer, who competed in the eight-and-under division, took first place in the 25 freestyle (19.75), the 25 butterfly (24.68), the 25 backstroke (23.92) and the 50 freestyle (43.81).
Isaac Panzer turned in first-place performances in five individual events — 50 freestyle (33.63), 50 butterfly (37.83), 50 backstroke (45.28), 50 breaststroke (50.00) and the 100 individual medley (1:36.07) — in the 10-and-under division.
Golden Belt has a swim meet in Dodge City on Saturday.
