The Golden Belt Swim Squad opens their season on Saturday with a meet at Kirkman Activity Center on the Barton Community College campus.
The meet starts at 9 with the 10-and-under group. The 11-and-over kids will start around noon.
There will be no admission fee.
The defending Western Kansas Swim Club League champions, who beat 12 teams from parts of western Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, are under new management.
Steve Beaumont stepped down as skipper of the swim team, and Kody Cook has assumed the position.
Beaumont coached both the girls’ and boys’ swim teams for Great Bend High School this past school year.
Cook was an assistant coach. He is a former swimmer for the Golden Belt Swim Squad, and he was an assistant coach for the summer program.
The swim squad will bring over 80 swimmers to the competition, which will host over 200 from the Western Kansas Swim Club.
Golden Belt, which competes on Saturdays, will compete at Garden City on June 8, Leoti on June 15, Lakin on June 22 and Dodge City on June 29.
The league’s combined meet will be on July 13-14 in Hays. Swimmers must qualify for this meet.
The Division-II meet will be held at Emporia on July 19-21, and the Division-I meet will be held at Wichita on July 26-28.
