The 2024 Macksville Mustang cross country team features front row—Kennedy Butler, Makayla Wolff, Isaiah Russell; back row—
Aiden Gandara, Ashley Barron, Alexandra Lopez, Alycia Fulls.
MACKSVILLE – Macksville junior Maria Garcia (36th at regionals) leads a 6-runner Mustang cross country team.
Junior Alycia Fulls placed first and senior Alexendra Lopez placed runner-up in last year’s Central Prairie League junior varsity division.
“We have enjoyed high-spirited and competitive practices and are looking good. They all are working hard,” said veteran Macksville coach Mike Hullman. “We don’t have any runners with more than one year of cross country experience. We don’t have anyone with that mileage background. A couple of them ran track distance events in track, but that was two miles and not the 5-kilometers (3.5 miles). We’ll have to build up to that mileage.”
The Mustangs will able to field a 4-runner girls team that will count in the team scores in 2024.
“Once we get to 1A competition, we’ll be able to run as a girls team since we have four girls. It’ll be nice to be able to compete as a team. It gives the girls something to work toward in practice. They are in the process of building those mileage backgrounds.”
