PRATT — Macksville’s Itzel Garcia (24:54) led the Mustangs with a 12th-place finish at Saturday’s Pratt-Skyline cross country meet.  

Other Macksville runners were Lydia Mendez (26:38), 16th; Kaylee Hottovy (29:30), 24th; Caren Holguin (29:52), 26th; and Anna Suiter (30:28), 27th. 

“We had a nice day to run, just a little bit wet,” said Macksville coach Mike Hullman. “It’s nice to see our ladies place third as a team in the varsity race.  We’re still running good splits for our first mile, but we start to fade in our second and third miles, which makes our mile averages too high.  We need to keep working on our mileage and push toward the end of our workouts.”  

Jacob Suiter (20:40) placed 28th and Andrew Cross (20:55) placed 30th in the boys division. Other runners were Gabe Wolff (21:12), 34th; Trey Britton (22:58), 40th; and Grant Frink (24:18), 47th. 

“We didn’t get out to run hills and doing that will help us when we start seeing hillier courses,” Hullman said. “We know what we need to do. We will get back to it during upcoming workouts.  We need to be more confident in our running.”

Mustang Abigail Ibarra (24:44) placed first and Krystal Marquez (27:05) finished runner-up in the junior varsity girls division.

“We started out the meet the right way with all of our JV runners earning medals,” Hullman said. “Abigail Ibarra and Krystal Marquez had great races while placing first and second.”
