No. 1 Pratt overwhelms Indians, 55-0

PRATT – Pratt all-stater Travis Theis accounted for seven touchdowns to spark No. 1-ranked Greenbacks to a dominating 55-0 District football win over the winless Larned Indians Friday.

Theis gained 158 yards and scored four rushing touchdowns on runs of 3, 19, 20 and 30 yards. Theis completed a trio of touchdown passes to Brett Winsor for 31, 32 and 39 yards.

Pratt (4-0, 1-0 District) travels to Kingman after the Eagles’ upset victory prevented the defending state champion out of the 2017 playoffs. Larned (0-4, 0-1 District) journeys to defending 4A state champion Holcomb (1-3, 0-1 Distirct) after the Longhorns were shocked 27-7 by Nickerson.

Due to injuries and illness Larned played without seven of their usual starters. The inexperience showed.

Theis hit Brett Winsor with a 39-yard touchdown pass and the tone had been set.

After holding Larned to one first down, behind a nifty punt return by Theis. Theis rambled for an up-the-middle 19-yard keeper for a touchdown for a 14-0 lead.

Pratt scored four second-quarter touchdowns, all of which Theis had a hand in, to lead 42-0 at halftime.

Pratt’s final score came with 8:26 left in the fourth quarter when backup running back Derek Roadhouse slashed 9 yards for a touchdown. Following that touchdown, Daniel Sanchez missed the conversion kick, his only miss of the night, for the 55-0 final score.

Larned’s offense bogged down all evening, trying to gain consistency, as they struggled to replace the quarterbacking of injured Mason Perez who was lost for the season in the Hoisington game with a broken bone in his hand.

Sophomore quarterback Dillan Smith performed admirably in the passing game, despite intense pressure from Pratt’s defensive line. Smith completed eight of 17 passes but the running game for the Indians never materialized against the bigger and quicker Greenbacks.

The Greenbacks rolled up 22 first downs behind 329 yards rushing and 137 yards passing. Tailback Hunter Huber gained 90 yards on 11 carries. Theis completed five of six passes for 137 yards. Receiver Brett Winsor caught three passes for 102 yards.

Larned managed six first downs behind 33 rushing yards and 45 passing yards on Smith’s eight completions. Andreus Tucker gained 26 yards on 10 carries.
