CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 66, RUSSELL 21

RUSSELL – No. 1 ranked Central Plains had already beaten the top two teams at the Amos Morris Tournament – third-place Phillipsburg 56-53 and fifth-place Smith Center 61-57. The Oilers rolled Russell 66-21 Saturday to capture the Morris Basketball Classic.

All-tournament Brynna Hammeke scored a career 33 points and All-tournament Kassidy Nixon added 10 points. Madison McGuire also earned all-tournament honors.

RUSSELL – No. 1 ranked Central Plains avenged a loss to Phillipsburg with a tight 56-53 victory over the Panthers in the Amos Morris Tournament semifinals. The Oilers outscored the Panthers 24-23 in a wild fourth quarter. The Panthers snapped the Oilers' 138-game winning streak last year.

The Oilers featured Kassidy Nixon (18), Brynna Hammeke (11) and Kyla Metro (10) in double figures. Metro rescued the Oilers with a trio of 3-pointers. Kansas State recruit Taryn Sides led the Panthers with 36 points and seven 3-pointers.

RUSSELL – Ulysses Tiger Ryan Nightengale scored 21 points and Adrian Sifnuentes added 14 points in a 69-27 consolation victory over Central Plains at the Amos Morris Basketball Classic. The Tigers converted 10 3-pointers.

Payton Ryan led the Oilers with 17 points and five 3-pointers.

RUSSELL — Brynna Hammeke rescued the No. 1 state-ranked Central Plains Oilers with 28 points, 18 after halftime, for a hard-fought 61-57 victory over No. 4 ranked Smith Center in Tuesday's Amos Morris Basketball Tournament. Kassidy Nixon contributed 17 points and Madison McGuire added 15 points as the Oilers' trio scored 60 points.

The Oilers saw an 11-point lead sliced to three points before Hammeke's steal and layup secured the victory.

Maile Hrabe scored 20 points and Ashlyn Long added 12 points.
