PHILLIPSBURG — Central Plains’ Emily Ryan will join a pair of Oiler doubles teams for the 3-1A state tennis tournament at Prairie Village. Ryan (28-0) defeated Beloit’s Sydney Evaristo 6-0, 6-1 in the championship match and won four matches to capture the Phillipsburg regional singles championship. 

Ryan has lost eight games in 28 matches. She improved her high school record to 122-10 in singles after placing as 3-1A state runner-up the past two years.

Ryan lost 6-4, 6-3 in last year’s state championship to Kansas City Christian’s Emily McNeill for the second consecutive year. She’s finished fifth (29-6), second (32-3) and second (33-1) at state the past three years. McNeill (16-1) qualified for the state tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

Oilers Brynna Hammeke-Kyla Metro (26-4) defeated Ellsworth’s Jaycee Cunningham-Jaide Talbott 6-3, 6-4 in the championship match to place first in the Phillipsburg regional. Oilers Zoe Potter-Jennah Jeffrey (25-7) placed third with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over WaKeeney Trego’s Hannah Kinderknecht-Tillie Malinowsky, Trego, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
