Oilers' Ryan stays unbeaten in tennis

LINDSBORG – Two-time 3-1A state tennis runner-up Emily Ryan stayed perfect with four easy 8-0 victories at Thursday’s Smoky Valley Classic. Ryan downed Hesston’s Halle Krehbiel, 8-0 in the singles championship match.

Smoky Valley(43) placed first followed by Central Kansas League rival Hesston (38) and Abilene (38).  The Oilers scored 32 points to place fourth.

Central Plains Oilers Bryanna Hammeke-Kyla Metro placed fifth with an 8-1 victory over Ellsworth’s Maggie Windholz-Nicole Hasse. Hammeke-Metro lost a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-3) in the quarterfinals to Abilene’s Maddie Beswick-Maggie Gillespie.

Oilers Zoe Potter-Jennah Jeffrey downed Chapman’s Katherine Meilquham-Elizabeth Morgan, 8-0 for ninth place.

Hesston’s Mackenzie Unruh-Michaela Martin downed Smoky Valley’s Rachel Yenni-Karik Elliott in the doubles final.
