DODGE CITY – Doniphan West's girls rolled past 8-time state champion Central Plains 60-40 in the 1A Division 1 state tournament to end the state's all-time postseason basketball winning streak (55) and the longest state tournament streak (25) in KSHSAA history.

The Oilers (19-5) had never lost a state tournament game under coach Pat Stiles (226-13). The Oilers are 57-2 in postseason play with the last defeat 58-54 to Sterling in 2013.

The Oilers' top two players Brynna Hammeke and Marilyn Soeken missed valuable court time with foul trouble. Hammeke drew a trio of first-half fouls and Soeken was tagged with four second-half fouls. Soeken played brilliantly with 13 points, but fouled out. Hammeke make 4 of 12 shots and contributed nine points, 11 rebounds, six assists and two steals. The Oilers shot 33% on 15 of 45 goals and made 6 of 24 on 3-point goals.

The Mustangs scored 20 points off 18 Oiler turnovers and scored nine second-chance points.

Doniphan West's Kyra Johnson dominated inside with 18 points. Avery Weathersbee contributed 13 inside points. The Mavericks converted 5 of 11 3-ponters, keyed by a trio of 3-pointers by Malaiana Whetstine.
