Panther earns medalist honor

Panther golf places seventh at Hays.

LIBERAL — Great Bend's Ethan Somers tied for first place at 2-over-par 74 and earned medalist honors on a tiebreaker at Tuesday's Liberal Golf Invitational.

Somers birdied a career high five birdies at Nos. 4, 5, 6, 12 and 15 at Willow Tree Golf Course. The Panthers recorded a season high 12 birdies.

Sixth-place Ian Premer fired a career high 78 with birdies at Nos. 4, 11, 12 and 17. Tenth-place Nash Lindberg (80) birdied No. 15.

Lennon Johnson (86) birdied No. 13. Cal Schartz (86) birdied No. 6.

The Panthers (318) tied Hays (318) for third place. Dodge City (307) won the team title.

Great Bend competes in Monday's 5A golf regional at Hays.
