Panthers win 4 events at Jack Bowman track meet

Great Bend's girls captured the 3,200-meter relay and Eliana Beckham captured the 800 meters (2:26.7).at Friday's Jack Bowman Track Invitational, honoring the longtime local track coach.

The Panthers won the 3,200-meter relay (10:15.32) with Addy Nicholson, Reese Bullard, Kate Welcher and Beckham. Sadie Spray, Beckham, Bullard and Kara Feist placed fourth (4:20.26) in the 1,600-meter relay.

Panther Macy Nachtigal won the javelin (124.8). 

Earning third-place medals were Panthers Sadie Spray, 300 hurdles (50.19); Nicholson, 1,600 (5:33.06); 3,200 (12:11.61); Cassie Ellegood, high jump (5-2) and Allie Gerhart, shot put (34-3).

Pawnee Heights Tiger Olivia Hands placed third in the discus, 112-9.

The Jack Bowman Invitational was filled with state champions and quality athletes across the board.

Perennial 4A state track champion Andale (128) won the team title. Great Bend (96.33) placed third.

BOYS DIVISION — Great Bend Panther freshman Cooper Ohnmacht scored a personal best of 44-5 to capture the triple jump. Ohnmacht placed third in the long jump (21-81/2).

Panther Ramiro Rocho impressed with a runner-up finish in the 400 (53.24). 

Perennial 4A state track champion Andale won the team title (123.75).

Minton's shutout sparks sweep over Pratt

BY JIM MISUNAS jmisunas@gbtribune.com PRATT — After Daxton Minton spun a 6-0 shutout, Great Bend completed a hard-fought 7-5 victory to sweep Pratt in Friday's non-league baseball doubleheader. Koehn Ribordy earned a save in game two and led the offense for the Panthers (6-1) with seven runs batted home in the twin bill. PANTHERS 6, PRATT 0 (G1) — Minton (1-0) fashioned a 2-hitter in a masterful 78-pitch outing. Third baseman Trenton Kern turned a double-play on Madden Wilson's fifth-inning groundball. Carson Umphres opened the game with a leadoff homer. Two Pratt errors and a walk led to a 3-run third inning. Koehn Ribordy singled home Kern and Minton. Ribordy scored on Owen Kaiser's single for a 4-0 lead. Ribordy singled home Minton in the fifth inning. Ribordy scored on a seventh-inning wild pitch. PANTHERS 7, PRATT 5 (G2) — Ribordy stayed red hot with two singles and four runs batted home. Ribordy recorded seven outs to earn a save after Slade Mohr pitched 42/3 innings. Pratt led 4-1 after two innings. Owen Schmidt scored on Cresten Pore's first-inning single. Madden Wilson singled in Kameron Cox. Gatlin scored on Craft's single. Ethan Koger scored on a groundball for a 4-1 lead. Mohr scored on Jaxon Wondra's groundball in a 4-run third inning. Umphres scored on a passed ball.
