Panther girls lose in quarterfinals

WICHITA – Great Bend’s girls bowling team qualified with the second-best score, but lost to Goddard Eisenhower at the Great Plains Tournament in the Baker-style match play.

Great Bend qualified with the second-highest score after three regular games and 12 Baker-style games.  

Past 5A state champion Kaylin Wahlmeier shot 545 (206-144-195) and tied for ninth with teammate Paige Heine (165-191-189). 19th-place Zoey Mayberry (528) fired a 202 game.  

The Panthers secured the No. 2 seed (4,560) with a Baker average (171) after high scores of 202, 195, 193, 191, 182. 

No. 7 qualifier Goddard Eisenhower downed the Panthers 200-178, 131-215, 190-125 with the highest 2-game winning average of 195. 

Campus edged Eisenhower 189-161 and 215-210 for the title. Salina Central's Rocelyn Show (632) posted the high-series at 632.

The Great Bend girls won the Great Plains title and the 5-1A state bowling championship last year.

Brantley Vsetecka’s 542 (136-208-198) led the Panther boys. Daegen Miller 530 (144-199-187) finished second for Great Bend. Quinten Miller (438), Josh Manning (431), Keaton Wahlmeier (389) and Kayden Detrich (345) also competed.

Wichita Heights' Carson Ford (738) earned medalist honors.
