The Great Bend girls stormed ahead of defending Western Athletic bowling champion Garden City 53-43 heading to Tuesday's WAC Tournament at Dodge City.

The Panther girls blanked Liberal 11-0 Thursday after surprising Garden City 9-2 in Tuesday's WAC bowling dual. Reigning WAC Player of the Year Paige Wagner earned medalist honors with a 664 total (241-185-238). Great Bend's Addison Ehrlich was runner-up at 570 (207-201-162). The Panthers swept the top five spots with third-place Kaylin Wahlmeier (550), fourth-place Emma Mayhill (471) and Sahara Rhiza (470).

The Panther girls upset Garden City behind medalist Wagner 652 (236-205-211) along with runner-up Rhiza 641 (174-233-234) and fourth-place Kaylin Wahlmeier 572 (209-234-129). The Panthers swept the series games 777-715, 823-750 and 789-736. They won a Baker game 203-178 and lost by one pin and two pins in the other two Baker games.

The Great Bend boys rolled past Liberal 10-1, but lost 7-4 to Garden City. The Buffaloes maintain a 53.5 to 45-point lead heading to the WAC Tournament.

Reigning WAC Bowler of the Year Bryce Moore, averaging 220, earned medalist honors with a 662 total followed by runner-up Corbin Stanley (597) and fourth-place Caleb Murphy (576).

Moore earned medalist honors at Garden City with a 720 series (216-248-256). Ashton Ensley placed fourth at 569 (189-166-114) and Caleb Murphy placed seventh at 551 (147-167-237).

Garden City won series games 848-689 and 824-767 before the Panthers salvaged a game 885-793. The Panthers won two Baker games 227-171 and 207-195.

The Western Athletic Conference bowling championship is scheduled Tuesday at Spare Tyme Bowl in Dodge City. Garden City and Great Bend have swept the WAC bowling titles the past 10 years. Great Bend and Garden City girls each own five titles in the past 10 years. The Panther boys have captured six championships to four by the Buffaloes in the past 10 years.
