Panther girls finish third at Andover
ANDOVER – Great Bend’s girls placed third at the Andover Bowling Tournament and got a first-hand look at regional rivals Buhler and Salina South, which finished first and second. Great Bend qualified fourth at 2,080 pins.
The Panthers’ fivesome of 12th-place Kaylin Wahlmeier (546) and 14th-place Emilee Nelson (511) joined Sahara Rhiza (488), Aliyah Fryberger (454), Kristy Wittig (452) and Jenna Dean (441) for the Baker bracket format. The Panthers downed Augusta, 225-184, 160-171, 209-177 for third place. Champion Buhler recorded its two highest games 201-174 and 244-172 to beat the Panthers in the semifinals. The Panthers outlasted Andover Central 167-171, 204-179 and 158-149 in the opening round.
The improving Great Bend boys placed seventh with a 156-198, 235-154, 194-161 victory over Mulvane. Top-seeded champion Buhler cruised past Great Bend 204-178, 209-149 in the opening round. Andover Central edged past Great Bend, 180-239, 212-198, 155-144 in the second round.
