MCPHERSON – Great Bend’s Cole Streck shot 9-over-par 80 to place ninth at Thursday’s McPherson Golf Invitational at Turkey Creek Golf Course. The northwesterly wind blew 15 to 20 mph.

Salina Sacred Heart (319) placed first and Great Bend (337) finished runner-up. The Panthers also counted scored by 12th-place Scott Heilman (83), 15th-place Brantley Baldwin (86) and 18th-place Cayden Bouse (88).

“Being the first tournament in two years, we got off to nervous starts and had some struggles with the firm, fast greens and a blustery, unique, west-northwest wind,” said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. “I’m proud that the guys kept grinding and managed to post a decent team score, earning second place. They weren’t satisfied overall with their play, but were happy to place second. They know that good things are ahead. Placing five players into the top 25 in a 64-man field is a nice accomplishment.”
Salina Sacred Heart’s Kameron Shaw (73) edged teammate Caleb Gilliland (75) for first place.
