In an 11-team home meet, the Great Bend exceeded expectations and surpassed season-best times with a runner-up finish (382) to 6A powerhouse Manhattan (419).
The stands were filled to capacity at the Barton Community College pool, spiced by high-energy fans and swimmers. There were 15 heats in the 50-yard freestyle.
Great Bend coach Cari Carper enjoyed seeing several season-best times.
“The girls swam phenomenal,” Carper said.
Great Bend pulled out a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:53.92) to end the meet on a high note. Panthers Emilee Hall, Kamryn Johns, Ellyson Somers and Josephine Mazouch competed on the first-place relay.
Ellyson Somers earned a first place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:09.36) and a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1;18.73).
Panther Josephine Mazouch finished runner-up in the 50 freestyle (*27.41) with a season-best time.
Emilee Hall finished runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.42).
