EL DORADO – Great Bend reserves Luke Wondra and Korbin Widiger sparked the Panthers past Circle 53-37 in Friday’s Bluestem Classic basketball consolation game.

Wondra scored a career high 10 points and Widiger sparked a second-half rally with five consecutive fast-break points for a 30-27 lead. The Panthers trailed 27-25 after building an early 10-point lead.

“Korbin Widiger gave us a shot in the arm,” said Great Bend coach Tim Brooks. “We were able to bounce back and play solid. We regrouped.”

Sam Ryan and Wondra each converted a pair of 3-pointers and Bryce Brown, Peyton Duvall and Alex Schremmer each made one 3-pointer.

“We had different guys knocking down 3s,” Brooks said. “They stayed defensively with Schremmer and they had confidence to knock them down.”

Schremmer helped the Panthers outscore the Thunderbirds 28-10 after trailing, thanks to a pair of technical fouls on Circle’s Eric Hollinger and Jude Warren for arguing officiating calls.

Schremmer fed Duvall for a 3-pointer. He added two free throws off a technical and made a 3-pointer on Trent Stueder’s assist. Stueder’s basket made it 40-28.

Schremmer scored 10 points. Circle’s Gunner Hutson and Matt Hromek each scored nine points.
