Great Bend quarterback Cayden Scheuerman and receiver Braylon Council hooked up for two touchdown passes in Friday's football jamboree against Scott City and Hoisington.

Council delivered a nifty fake and Scheuerman floated a perfect pass for a 65-yard score. Later on, quarterback Maddox Spray completed a 17-yard scoring pass to Blaike Parsons. Panther quarterback Joseph Moeder also enjoyed some bright moments.

Great Bend coach Erin Beck plans to play Scheuerman and Moeder when the Panthers open their home season Sept. 3 against Maize South.

"All the quarterbacks delivered the football to the right spots," Beck said. "Joseph and Cayden are still battling for playing time. Both will play this week. There were a lot of good things we saw Friday. I liked the way our offense looked. We ran the football well at times and our offensive line did a nice job getting four to six yards at times."

Beck said the best part was giving the players an opportunity to play at game speed for 36 offensive and 36 defensive snaps against Hoisington's Flexbone and Scott City's Wing-T offense.

"It was a good experience and we got the things out of it we wanted," Beck said. "It was a pretty clean night. We got our players used to seeing the things we'll see on Friday nights. Our pad level was high tackling, but it was good experience that we can see on film. Our defense played well and adjusted on the run to two offenses we had not scouted."

The Panthers recovered a couple fumbles and Council forced a takeway.

One of Hoisington's offensive highlights was a 60-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Wyatt Wikum to receiver Leyton Haxton. The Cardinals' offense line blocked solidly and the backs ran hard as usual.

Scott City exploited the Panthers' defense for several long-yardage passing plays, including a 45-yard score. The Beavers also scored on an 8-yard run.
