Panthers' doubles finishes runner-up

Great Bend's No. 1 doubles Taylor Lashley/Samantha Mayers continues to perform at a high level with a runner-up finish to Garden City's Jocelyn Kennedy/Danica Galia 8-3 in Saturday's Great Bend Tennis Invitational. Ellinwood's seventh-place finishers Grace Sturtz/Mahra Johnston handed Lashley/Mayers an 8-4 setback in 90-degree heat. 

Reigning Western Athletic champion Garden City (61) edged Sterling (58) for the team title with the Panthers finishing third with 49 points.

Great Bend's No. 1 singles Kaylin Wahlmeier performed admirably with a third-place finish on a 8-6 victory over Garden City's Quincy Nanninga. Wahlmeier lost tiebreakers to Sterling's champion Cheslie Brown 8-7 (7-1) and Dodge City's Charlotte Wagner 8-7 (8-4).

At No. 2 singles, Great Bend's Clarice Snapp defeated Hoisington's Reese Merlau 8-5 for third place. 

At No. 2 doubles, Sterling's Jaiden Jaeger/Emily Wellman defeated Hoisington's Lauren Higgins/Piper Jacobs 8-3 for third place. Great Bend's Danica Strickland/Mackenzie LaViolette defeated Liberal's Nathalie DonJuan/Kaylee Velazquez, L, 8-3 for fifth place.
