GREELEY, Colo. — Sherry Ann Winters, 76, of Greeley, Colo. passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 24, 1947 in Great Bend, Kan. to Leonard and Marjory (Telford) Moore. She grew up in Great Bend, was one of the first members of the GBHS She Sharks, and she graduated from Great Bend High School in 1965. Sherry moved to Hays, Kan. and attended Fort Hays State University. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal church, Great Bend. She then moved to Colorado where she met her husband, Gail. The two were married on Nov. 19, 1970. She took great pride being a stay at home mom raising her two children. Later she worked at State Farm for 10 years as a Health Claims Processor, she retired early to travel with her husband. She and her husband spent six years as full-time RV’ers, traveling over 90,000 miles throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Puerto Penasco, Mexico became a favorite spot.
Her love of quilting evolved into a thriving business as a long arm quilter. Many of her beautiful quilts went to family and friends and several won ribbons and awards. She enjoyed baking, reading, gardening and was an avid card player. She was also the self proclaimed president of the MD Anderson Cancer Center sunshine cart committee in Greeley.
Sherry is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gail Winters of Greeley Colo.; her son, Justin of Timnath, Colo., and daughter Jennifer Merck and husband Jeremy of Fort Collins, Colo.; her siblings, David Moore and wife Leticia of Milliken, Colo., and Tina Duryee and husband Jim of Great Bend, Kan.; her nephew, Matt Salazar; niece, Jennifer Salazar; great niece Kinsley Salazar all of Colorado; sister-in-law, Karen Edwards of Greeley, Colo.; and her beloved cat, Macey Day.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Adamson Life Celebration Home. Life Celebration will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Greeley, Colo. Inurnment will be in Great Bend, Kan. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s or Northern Colorado Humane Society in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 W. 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
