LENEXA – Great Bend swimmer Ellis Long placed runner-up in the 5-1A 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.06), just behind Andover Central state champion Noah Krueger (58.63). Long finished second with a preliminary time of 1:00.6 at the Shawnee Mission Aquatic Center. Long placed seventh last year at 5-1A state with a school record time (1:00.66).
Long earned Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year honors after winning the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and first-place 200 free relay and 200 medley relay teams.
WAC champion Kasey Kennedy finished 16th in the 100-yard butterfly (58.08).
Long, Kasey Kennedy, Adam Hall and Beau Burkhart won the WAC 200 freestyle relay (1:39.03) and finished 21st in the 200 relay (1:42.32).
Long, Kennedy, Burkhart and Ty Boone won the WAC 200 medley relay (1:51.68) and finished 12th at state (1:50.16).
